This herb is a perennial and is also called Buffalo herb. The plant has small purple-violet flowers that bloom from July to September and the leaves are growing in groups of three. Alfalfa can grow up to 3 feet high.
Alfalfa's roots can grow as deep as 20 feet. Alfalfa is rich in the green plant pigment chlorophyll, protein, fiber, and a variety of vitamins and minerals.
Take internally (capsules, tablet, tincture, tea) to stimulate your appetite, to reduce blood cholesterol levels and to help you recover from any debilitating illness. It's also good for cystitis (inflammation of the bladder), diabetes, asthma and hayfever.
If you have bad breath sip an alfalfa infusion. You can take up to two capsules three times a day before meals. The leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. Y ou can also try to add powdered alfalfa to salads or soups. Parts

Don't use if you have an autoimmune problem. Don't use if you are taking blood thinning agents.
Don't eat the seeds since they contain high levels of the toxic amino acid canavanine.
