This perennial herb is also called Chinese Root, Small Spikenard. The name sarsaparilla comes from the Spanish words "sarza," for "shrub," and "parilla" for "little vine." Sarsaparilla root contains sulfur, iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium.

Take internally (capsules, tincture, tea) for gas, fevers, and to increase the flow of urine. Sarsaparilla also increases energy, regulate hormones and it is good for PMS, impotence, hives, infertility and nervous system disorders. It may also enhance physical performance.
