This perennial herb, also known as mother of thyme, can grow up to 12 inches tall. The plant have bluish purple to pink flowers that blooms in midsummer. Plant Thyme in a sunny location in light, well-drained soil. Sow
2-3 weeks before last spring frost with about 10 inches between plants. The plant matures in about 70 days.
Harvest the leaves as needed and the flowers as they open. To get the best flavor, harvest the leaves and flowertops before the flowers bloom.
Take internally (tincture) to eliminate gas, to reduce fever, headaches, indigestion, hayfever, poor circulation, liver diseases, throat and bronchial problem, colds, cough, flu, diarrhea, gastritis and colic.
Applied externally, Thyme is good for wounds, poor circulation, rheumatism scabies, crabs, athlete's foot and ringworm.
Thyme (essential oil) is anti-infectious and may boost the immune system.
If you suffer from hair loss, mix 5 drops of thyme oil, 3 drops of rosemary oil with 3/4 cup of shampoo. Use it as needed.
There are many ways you can enjoy Thyme. Add it to cheese dishes, vegetable dishes and for cooking with lamb, pork and fish. Some people even add Thyme to bread. Parts used: Flower tops, leaves.
Don't use if you are pregnant. Don't use in large quantities since it can be toxic.
